Innovation is an essential driver of economic growth and future competitiveness. A thriving innovation economy promotes economic growth, fosters new technologies and creates jobs. This is a dynamic process which focuses on the creation and implementation of new or improved products & services, processes and paradigms. Successful innovations are those that result in improvement in efficiency, effectiveness, quality or social outcomes/impacts. In the past, steps were taken by various departments of State Government which have further paved the way for the promotion of innovative ideas at State level. Some of these innovative ideas are, construction of plastic roads using plastic waste, replacement of ordinary bulbs by CFL/LEDs to improve environment by reducing gases/pollution, use of Embryo Transfer Technology for genetic improvement of livestock, Web based GIS Portal by generating digital elevation maps from Satellite imageries to track the entire Hydro Power Scenario in the State and automation of records like automatic mutation, inter-connectivity between revenue registration records etc.   State Innovation Council (SInC): An Apex Body at State Level State Innovation Council was constituted by State Government in 2011 under the Chairpersonship of Chief Secretary, Government of Himachal Pradesh giving representation to major departments, technical institutes & universities of the State. The Council acts as an apex body at State level to institutionalize the innovative practices & ideas by providing a common platform for local talents, competencies, resources & capabilities.
