Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):- A new sustainable development agenda entitled, “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” was adopted by the 193 Member States of the United Nations at the Sustainable Development Summit held at UN Headquarters in New York in September 2015. All the member nations decided on global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and proposed to achieve these goals through universal peace and greater freedom by building partnerships. This agenda contains 17 Goals and 169 targets. The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan of action for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. Statement made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, at the UN Summit for the adoption of Post-2015 Development Agenda was a commitment that “Just as our vision behind the Agenda 2030 is lofty, our goals are comprehensive. It gives priority to the problems that have endured through the past decades. And, it reflects our evolving understanding of the social, economic and environmental linkages that define our lives”. Government of Himachal Pradesh also started institutionalization of SDGs in the State budget starting from the financial year 2016-17.
